I spent today starting what might turn out to become a rather big project. A collection of pictures of windows. You can take a look at this work in progress by clicking below.

If you have a photo of a window that you think might find a place included on this site please e-mail it to me, preferably as a .jpeg file. I think the only criteria for inclusion are that the picture shows something that isn't already included and that it doesn't involve uPVC as that would offend my religion.

Sadly, the Eden Valley, along with other parts of Cumbria, has become infected with plastic windowitis.

It's heartbreaking to see places such as Milburn, with its wonderful mixture of buildings clustered around a green, being spoilt in this way - all that beautiful joinery, all that lovely glass, junked.

Aluminium windows? Isn't the room very dark?

There are some quite interesting windows in this part of Suffolk. I'll try to remember to take the old Brownie Box out in the car with me, and submit a few to your collection.

But at my age, those words "try to remember" will be a key factor in that!

I'm interested to know what makes one offender worse than another. Surely all placcy windows are equally shite.

Yes - but made worse by ruining VERY nice traditional buildings. I think we could have a competition here...

It seems to me that a lot of external doors were replaced at the same time. Our place currently sporting really horrible alliminium, frosted glass and wood effect number, which obviously went in at the same time as the equally horrible windows ....
