Window "fitting", catch, latch or what?

Hi All Knowing PPUK,

I've got a bunch of windows in need of some (a lot) of tender loving care. The majority of the casements (we have a mongrel mix of windows) have this catch and they have been variously "repaired" with "eye and hooks" and random door furniture. I would like to re-instate the same catches when I overhaul the windows but I can't find any similar catches/latches.

This is what we've got.

Can anybody help with a potential supplier and name / type / style ?

Seems to depend on your PC - on my desktop I can see it, on my laptop I can't, must be something to do with the browser. Might be better to use a 3rd party photo hosting, such as imgbb.com

I've never seen a window catch like this one though.

Thanks Feltwell. They are quite wide spread in one of the houses. I did wonder at one time if they were cabinet locks of some description but the axis of operation is wrong.

Very interesting article, and thanks for the link. (Sadly no "help" on the current quest though.)

It does shed some light on these "oddities" though.

I think I will probably use very basic and sympathetic style to overhaul some of the more used windows and then put restored / salvaged originals in the less used windows.

‘fromtheanvil’ has a decent range of period fittings. Alternatively, for true duplicates, a decent blacksmith would be able to copy one of the existing latches, though I’ve no real idea how much they would cost. Theres every chance I could make you a few of them, depending on quite how many you need and how soon you need them. Incase your wondering im an industrial machine maintence engineer and also enjoy doing metalwork in my spare time. I would need a sample to copy but they look relatively straight forward to make.
