Whitby Progress

May be another six months and I'll have it finished. I've done another video at about 2 1/2 years in to this twelve month project.

Since taking this I've about mastered lime plastering and I'm experimenting at making milk paint so it feels like it's all coming together.

The thought of lazy days just sitting and watching the tides changing, with nothing else to do helps with the motivation to get it all sorted. (where's the wistful emoticon)

Well done Andy--what a labour of love, but it is looking good. What struck me as I watched the video, is that I can still sense the original spirit of the building, from when I last saw it Autumn 2013. Just shows what a lot of care you have taken to preserve all that makes the cottage sing.

I love your videos, they give a very good idea of what the house is like and that changes you have made and I think I will have a go at making videos of my new hovel too. Have you got any hot tips for a novice about how to make a good house video?

What camera did you use? I wonder if a smartphone would be good enough. What editing program did you use?

It's well worth taking walk-around videos once a year at least. When you get disheartened and think things are going very slowly it's helpful to look at the last video and see how much has changed. I don't post mine online. A mobile phone and Windows Movie Maker would suffice unless you want to spend money. I have a Sony camera and Corel Video Studio (a bit fiddly to use) which I use for other things.

Nieces have gone home so it's safe to pop in for a coffee if you like.

Any video camera or phone will do. The hardest part I find is talking coherently and remembering what things are supposed to called. As a result there's a lot of editing required, I could do an out-takes version that runs for an hour.

I'm keeping my eyes out for suitable gnome or gargoyle to go in the mouse door for the entertainment of small people, unless I drop on a replacement boot scraper.

Looking back at parts 1 and 2 certainly makes me realise how far I've got, you don't tend to see the progress when you are at it all the time.

Has anyone else made and used their own milk-casein/lime paint? It's weird stuff to use.
