Which way do your braces go?

No - not that sort of braces.

This is such a fundamental question that I'm almost embarrassed to ask it, but I want to check an assumption that I've always made.

On a ledge-and-brace door, should the braces angle upward from the hinged edge towards the opening edge (ie: in compression) or downward (ie: in tension)?

Or doesn't it matter?

Upward from hinged edge and towards the latch end Penners, ( in compression ).

Fitted in the opposite way around would inevitably result in door sag at the latch ( eventually).

Thanks, Middi. I'm very relieved! I'm partway through making two pairs of garage doors, and have fitted the first braces the way you suggest.
