Hi. I'm new to this site. I've been reading up on lime products and I must say I'm completely confused!
We own a Victorian house (1870) which is of mainly red brick construction. The brickwork at the rear of the house which is west facing, has suffered rather badly in places and we need to replace a few blown bricks and do some repointing. This side of the house gets the brunt of the westerly winds and rain (we live in the south west and it can be quite wet!)
A few years ago, the previous owners had the house repointed (sadly NOT with lime mortar). Luckily, most of the brickwork is fine despite the inappropriate repointing, but there are areas which need attention.
Can anyone advise which type and strenght of lime mortar we should use given that our bricks are quite soft, but the damaged wall is rather exposed to the elements.
Any advice would be welcome!
