Where do you stand with Surveyors when they mess up?
I have recently purchased a grade 2 1680’s wood frame cottage, and of course had a full structural building survey; with the mortgage company valuers, who told me they have lots of experience with this type of building.
After getting an awfully poor excuse for the survey some 3 weeks later, asked him to improve and confirm some of my concerns, he said that was it.
The survey did not pick up as much detail as I did with my builder and father;
So on that basis we reduce price on the my details.
The problem is a soil pipe that runs through the front of the building, which was exposed at the point of survey at the down pipe - turned out to be asbestos; and labelled in the survey as “Cast Iron”. (One of my original concerns)
The surveyor new I was proposing to put a further down stairs bathroom onto the pipe
Now I’m sure Chancellors Associates are a reputable company, but I have not seen any of that from them.
Just advice to remove it my self and take it to the skip, and non replied letters.
I had the work done to remove and relace the pipe at a cost to me of £2.5k.
I have written to the many times and now to RICS. What can I do about this situation?
