What should I read first?

Hi everyone, I just registered for the first time this week.

Soz for my laziness, but I was wondering if anyone could point me to any particularly important threads that I should have a read of first, so I can get up to speed here?

Welcome from across the pond. Do you have an interest in an older property in the States? I suspect that we have different rules here (eg Listed Building Consent needed to alter properties) and maybe different types of problems.
It would be interesting to know what the approach to older buildings is in your part of the world.

I think DaveBrigg has hit on an important point. Many of the recommendations, opinions and suggestions on this forum will be based on the assumption that UK regulations will apply. So you'll need to keep this in mind constantly when you read our threads.

Nevertheless, there is still a fund of useful information on general principles, that will not be nationally specific, and I hope these will be of interest to you.

A good place to start might be the Information section of the site. This contains a considerable number of authoritative articles on a wide range of topics, written by some of the site's most expert contributors.
