Hi,
I'm stripping back a lot of wood (Skirting boards, architraves etc) in my house and oiling it.
There is a brown coating applied directly to the surface of the wood (I assume when the house was built in 189x) that is proving to be an absolute nightmare!
Chemical paint strippers don't do a thing to it and a heat gun just melts it, but immediately the heat is removed, it solidifies again making it near impossible to scrape off with a scraper out of detail work in the wood.
Initially I thought it was shellac, but things like alcohol or acetone nails varnish remover won't touch it.
Sanding just results in it immediately clogging up the sandpaper.
Any idea what it is and how to shift it easier than the massively slow process of sanding it?
