What Paint if any ?

I am about to fit black plastic gutters and downpipes on this 15th cent white lapped boarded external building, ( cast iron when I am wealthy !! )
In the mean time I want to paint the downpipes a white colour to blend itself in the background.

White gloss any good ? , or is there a better option.

Suggestions welcome.

Its an odd one for me.

I used the floorpaint once and it stunk the place out - tough as nails but you can just feel the braincells screaming

and I know Dulux make some nasty upvc weathershield paint as well.

Have you considered the Swedish steel stuff which is much cheaper than cast iron and very good looking and easy to fit.

Interesting sites chaps, The plan really is to to re-use the relatively new black guttering existing on site ( I hate the stuff anyway) untill , and as Biff suggested, make some nice oak gutters and in the meantime, the staircase, kitchen furniture, beds, etc... await my attention.
I just wanted to slap some paint on the plastic downpipes so I do not after stare at the B****Y things ( four of them! ) all the time.
I've seen the odd ones painted with emulsion or some other paint, they look horrible and stick out like a sour thumb.

Paint househod gloss topcoat straight onto them. The paint chemically bonds with the pvc and lasts a long long time, whereas it doesnt do this on wood. Dont stick underfoats, primers etc on them.

I did the opposite a few years ago a white pvc drain for a washing machine that looked totally out of place when all the down pipes and gutters were black, too lazy to replace it so painted with Plasti-kote fast dry enamel no undercoat high gloss and still perfect.

I'm with Thiambal - why on earth would you want to use black downpipes and paint them white? Why not use white downpipes - or is that too easy? :wink:

I found these downpipes and most of the guttering already here Penners.

I refuse on principal to buy plastic gutters etc.. to fit on this type of house and untill I can make, or buy, some more appropriate ones the old black plastic is going back up for the time being.

I just want them not to "offend" my eye every time I walk by.
If it means a small tin of gloss for the moment, so be it.

When I am ready to sort them out I may get in touch with Biff, he has done a bit of research on old guttering.

Feel I should recount the tale of my grey guttering and downpipes that have all been liberally painted with some sort of White matt paint and its peeling off in shards looks dreadful and is yet another job to do when others ,more pressing, have been tended to! Please just buy some white ones don't paint them - they'll look ok for awhile but may look dreadful before you have the funds to replace with Cast iron ones.
