what fire extinguisher

i need two fire extinguishers for a smallish thatched cottage to keep my insurance happy , i am lost when it comes to these things. can anyone recommend what kind i need please?

If your insurance company is specifying that you must have an extinguisher (or two), I would ask them for written confirmation of which type would be acceptable.

a water one would probably be a good idea as would a powder one , but i think i will give my insurers a call and make sure.

Someone also posted up a while ago the idea of putting a radio-linked smoke alarm in the loft space of their thatched cottage - so if it detects anything it sets off another alarm within the house - which sounds like quite a sensible idea.
