I'm trying to figure out why a ceiling has large yellow/orange/light brown stains on it. It has bubbling, and the 'wallpaper' with the molding over it is peeling off. There's obviously water damage, but I'm not sure if there's something more!
the only thing you can really do is look for the leak that is causing this, this will depend on what is above this room wither its an outside leak or a pipe leak
I think it's fairly safe to assume that it's from a chimney stack. There are massive water stains under two of the chimney stacks of a neglected property that look as if they've dried out-ish but still left the stains on the ceiling paper - with some of the paper still peeling off. One appears to have had some recent work, but yeah, need to see the state of the timbers before I can really do anything.
