What colour curtains in yellow room?

I'm doing up my middle room. As always, I'm not quite happy with it. It's getting better, but I am stuck trying to decide what curtains would fit in. What goes with yellow walls? Dark red seems nice. Here it is so far.

I like the dark red idea. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough for it, but I think it would look awesome. My safe choice would probably be a sagey green

Same sort of red as the top of those chair backs in front of the fireplace I'd say.

Any earth tone would work, reds, greens, browns etc. Personally I would go with a cream, beige or soft green in order not to over shadows the walls. So it depends what you want your dominant colour to be. Red will be the dominant over yellow, green will be more harmonious, light browns [beige/creams etc] will be background colours, dark browns more dominant.

Could go for trusty Morris Willow Bough, which is cream and sage green. A bit obvious perhaps but it is nice.

I would go for red. Maybe berry red velvet though now Feltwell has suggested the red William Morris I am tempted by that too
I would be cautious about green because yellow and green can be a bit competitive and you would need to compare them insitu and in various lights

My suggestion would be a blue toile du jouy on an off white background, and add a few more blue and white accessories.

Another vote for dark red. I have dark red curtains with yellow walls in my study. I much prefer warm colours to cold colours, but then my house is a different style to yours.

Agb's Missus. Sorry we've been away a long time (but Whitby cottage finally finished :roll: ) Our Victorian Study is bright yellow and we dyed our existing velvet curtains black (turned out a very deep grey as we forgot to salt the machine) They looked great. They're now in the rag bag as no longer required. AGB has finally got round to installing the wooden sliding sash, double glazed window in there and built the (20 years in the planning) conservatory around it :lol:

Still no curtains, but the room is progressing. Just a work in progress picture really. I need a plant stand or small table. Hard to get plants to survive in here as it is dark. I am tempted by a white or cream roman blind in the window rather than curtains. Not sure how much more clutter to put in.

If the room is dark then you need an aspidistra - also know as the "cast iron plant". They are slow growing, but nearly indestructible :wink:
