After accepting an offer for our house, and finding a suitable property back in August, we have finally exchanged contracts with a completion date, second week in January!
We are moving back to North Norfolk, where we have found a small, perfectly formed, traditional cottage! Built 20 years ago by a good firm of local builders it should be easy maintenance and trouble free and has scope for a small extension if we so wish. The rooms are well proportioned and with a light touch I intend to give it a period feel by adding in a dado , panelled doors, and some lovely colours--I do like working with the North Norfolk light for colour scheming rooms. The garden is a decent size and I have hopes for a garden office.
We are incredibly fortunate to be within 3 miles of our old hunting ground of Chelsea by the sea where the equivalent property would now be twice the price.
Strangely, when we went to view the cottage we spotted a little red van parked near by---it was the joiner who did all the work on the renovation house we had in 2003-6-----of course I checked that he will be happy to help us again and also found the heating engineer we used, still up and running, so I think this cottage has always been destined to belong to us!!
We did look at 3 period properties, two in Walsingham and a renovation School House in Docking---- too much work, and a couple of them had tiny gardens.
I think our Vendors were slightly taken aback when I asked them about the construction of the house--but looked relieved when I said that I had no idea whatsoever how a modern house is put together, being used to listed houses!!! I did recognise the artex ceilings though---that will be the first thing I do--smooth it over!!
And, yay, I am going to give the Aga city 60 a whirl--the kitchen is a bit smaller than I am used to, but, again, well set out.
As I know some of you well know it is really hard deciding what to keep and what to let go, but my Son has taken out some of the family furniture and paintings and has them stored safely, the local Charity shops are overflowing, and Tring Auction rooms have been successful in selling for me. However, the compromises have not been too much of a challenge.
I just hope tht the weather does not do anything awful over the planned 3 day move !!
