Hi, I recently removed concrete harling from the front of my farmhaouse, circa 1712, I seem to have an issue with the stone frame of windows, internally, when heavy rain happens. Not helpful as I live in the Lake District. They become very damp and also struggling black mould growth. I ventilate as much as possible. Is there a recommended barrier prevention I can use externally?

It sounds like you've got water leaking through somewhere, careful inspection and then repoint (or render) with lime.
Have you read Peter Ward's book, "The Warm Dry Home" and the Haynes "Period Property Manual", they will both explain and help regarding damp.
A de-humidifier may help manage the damp / mould in the the interim.
