My father spent the weekend here and we managed to crack on with the decorating in the Morning Room. Fitted one of my recent eBay acquisitions - a solid brass chandelier. Very, very heavy - much more so than any of the larger chandeliers elsewhere in the house. Very pleased to have picked this up for just over £200. Was a huge job fitting it though....carpets upstairs had to be lifted (meaning furniture had to move rooms)...then was almost impossible to fit a noggin between the floor joists...managed it in the end, but took nearly half a day all told to get this fitted. Having lived with a single bare bulb since moving here, it is nice to finally have some light.
We have simply used lining paper and painted over this, (For those that are interested, F&B pointing distemper on the ceiling and F&B off white estate emulsion on the walls, F&B house white oil eggshell on the picture rail). Have kept the wooden beads discussed in another thread exposed (either side of chimney breast), but are undecided if we will paint these as the picture rail or the walls.
Skirting and shutters have been repaired and will be oiled/waxed, the floor will stay a dark finish (but perhaps not quite as dark). Awaiting a stone fire surround.
