weavers cottage windows

Hi there
I am in the process of buying a weavers cottage in manchesterand will need ti replace the windows. Does anyone know what the original windows for these cottages should look like? Also does anyone have a recommendation for a builder in manchester?

I've never been to Manchester, so this is only a guess, but if you ask around you should be able to find quite a few other similar cottages, some of which may still have the original windows.

Have you had a word with your local Conservation Officer? They can be a very useful source of information, as can local historical societies. Then, of course, librarians can point you towards books of photographs of 'Old Manchester'.

Well that's a fine terrace with a varied collection of dreadful windows, several of which appear to be in flagrant denial of Buildings Regulations regarding emergency egress.
What you need is top hung vertically sliding sashes, probably with each sash divided into two giving, what they call in the trade 'two over two'.
