Weald and Downland Museum

I have a trip to the Weald and Downland Museum tomorrow, its a morning tour with the Museum Director and Chief Carpenter and lunch for 6 people. As things stand I have had 2 people back out and there are 2 free places.

If anyone would like to come first come first served let me know tonight and I will meet you there in the morning at 10.30am.

Oh and I will be moving into the Merchants house in the next week or two!!

I know, been a bit epic, got there in the end!!

Good news last week, won an award for it, The Somerset Building Preservation Trust run awards every two years called the William Stansell awards. I gained a full award, both a plaque and certificate!!

No one for a free trip and lunch tomorrow then?????

I have just gone back to school at the age of 42, well night school for photography and my homework is to take 36 pictures before next wed. I think I may just manage that

Congratulations on the award. will you need LBC to put up the plaque though?
I would dearly love to go with you, but the boss may be less than sympathetic. However, I'd love to see any pictures you can take of Pendean Farmhouse. From their website it appears to be of an identical design to our house (before the Georgians got hold of it). If you get the chance, could you see if it has a cellar? This might give us a few clues about what is under our stairs.

Sadly did not get to go into this one. There was definately no mention of cellars on any of the buildings, not to say that they did not have them in their origional locations but they do not at the museum.

Interestingly enough they are moving their way through some of the buildings re-erecting them elsewhere slowly after re-interpreting what they are and how they worked and adopting some more appropriate repair techniques second time around. Both Richard (director) and Roger(head carpenter) were very interesting grounded people who I greatly enjoyed spending a few hours with.

Interestingly enough there is going to be a historic building crafts exhibition in Shepton Mallet Market place 25th October. So it looks like we will be doing guided tours that day.

Soon as I have more details I will pop up a post for it, I only found out a few days ago, it is being organised by Mendip and South Somerset DC's. As far as I am aware it will have various conservation suppliers/contractors with stalls and of course my building for those interested to see. The date however I am pretty certain is the 25th of October.

Infact I will start a post now and just add to it when I have more information.
