Whilst working up in one of my lofts i.e. doing a bit of timber repair and replacement, I’ve taken the opportunity to clear a load of debris and dust from between the ceiling joists, that is, picking out by hand bits of old slate etc and then gently hoovering out the dust. This has exposed the laths and the clumps of old lime plaster protruding up between the laths. Some of the lime plaster looks a bit fragile i.e. in some places the clumps between the laths just come away with the very slightest touch, other areas are quite sound and a few small areas have almost no lime protruding above the laths at all.
Is there any way of strengthening this ceiling in the weak spots, for example, can additional lime plaster be dabbed to the top of the ceiling form up in the loft to provide an extra key to the laths?
