A while back I pointed out to Rugby that their hydralime worked perfectly well without the cement, and how delighted I was with the results :mrgreen:
I got a nice reply, but they simply said that their instructions had to apply to the majority of building applications.
Which is the reply that I expected. But I thought I'd have a laugh and try anyway.

Interesting that they say the addition of lime "improves the... water retention of Portland Cement mortars"!

Does make you wonder if they consider adding it to cement has positive results why they dont just go the whole hog and remove the cement :lol:

As many of us probably know, adding lime to cement has always been a good idea if you wish to get a cement mortar like butter.
It is particularly good for very hot weather as it holds much more water in the cement and partially sets quickly so it stays in place.
If it wasn't for this fact I doubt many of the builders merchants would stock lime at all.

I always get strange looks at Jewsons when I tell the guys that load up the boot of the car what I'm going to be doing with it. I asked them about NHL bags the last time I was in there and it was blank looks all round in the yard. Fortunately the manager did know what I was talking about and he can also get hold of it from another branch. Our Jewson's branches here in West Wales are very well trained. Hydrate comes in fresh every 10 days, NHL3.5 always in stock, and NFL 2 and 5 to order, and even tubs of putty at the Crymych branch. Took a bit of nagging, but it worked. So nag your local branch.
