It seems (section 4.2.2) that there is dung and there is dung. You want to use stuff from cows that have been fed on period pasture, not the modern grass and concentrates.

This gets worse. I haven't yet thought of how to explain to my wife that I need to drive to the farm park for a bucket of **** to spread on the walls. Now I need to explain to the farmer that any old **** won't do, it has to be of the right stickiness.

The SPAB recipe book did suggest the use of urine as an alternative. Is there a standard for that too? I'm off now to buy a pair of rubber gloves before the shops close.

When I use cow dung it comes from the dairy herd next door, and they're fed on concentrates and have udders the size of VW Beetles, so I guess that would make them unsuitable in Tony Graham's view. The stuff still works, though!
