I have a forum friend who has bought a piece of mountain in Italy and had a cabin built on it. She has moved over there with her two dogs and nobody else. She was hoping to become self sufficient but every idea she has for a little business is ruined by the red tape or the fact that if you are a business, you pay over 3 grand a year tax before you even start earning properly.


She is probably going to have to sell up and come back after only being there approx six months.

That doesn't sound like the Italian way of doing things to me. I don't want to start a row, so I'll blame Kevin McCloud - surely in one of the Grand Designs, he followed a couple in Italy who found that you do whatever you want to do first, then pay the "fee" to regularise it all.

Well, my earnings aren't exactly a pittance, but about 6k of them I don't see at all because the taxman gets there first. If there's a way I could cut it down to 3k, other than being paid half as much to start with, please point me in the right direction.

Do they have no tax free allowance. :?: She is desperate to build kennels and board dogs but the cost and the tax would be prohibitive for the small amount of returns.

I am only going off her short updates. They have to pay 3,500 per year to be in business, as well as tax.
