Visiting Kilpeck

We're off to see Kilpeck Church in a few weeks and were wondering if anyone had any other recommendations in the same area (Hay on Wye/Abergavenny/Hereford)? Places to see, places to eat, nice walks? Many thanks, Vicky

The cider museum in Hereford is worth a look, for the shop if nothing else (Their cider brandy - if they still sell it - is very nice indeed).

I would have recommended Shobdon church, where a very important Norman church like Kilpeck was demolished in the 18th century* and replaced by a very important rococco-gothick one

But it's not clear from their website whether they've completed the repairs they were doing last year which meant it was closed throughout 2011.

I would reccomend a Cream tea at Broome Farm, Peterstow near Ross on Wye and a sampling session in the Cider Cellar there. You will not be dissapointed in either!

Check out the Marches castles at Skenfrith and Grosmont. Grosmont is very pretty and there is a nice cosy pub in the village near the castle (nice place to picnic).

To my regret, I don't believe I ever climbed there. I seem to remember it's limestone though which was never a favourite. It can get far too polished.
