Hello Period Property Lovers!!
I've just stumbled across your fantastic website so this is my first post...
I own a Victorian property built in 1883... the previous owners had an obsession with PVC (oo-er missis!!) unfortunately and wasn't too keen on keeping the original features... they pretty much ripped out all the "horrible(!)" old fashioned fireplaces, windows, coving etc and updated everything to a lovely 1970's/80's standard!!
We've been here for nearly 4 years now and have spent too long trailing from salvage yard to slavage yard making sure we find the right fireplace for this room and the right door for that room etc... we can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel!!
We have a PVC enclosed porch on the front of our house which is the next project... the lower brickwork that the PVC sit's on and the tiled floor/walls look like they've always been there so I think some kind of Victorian structure was here from when the house was built.
I think I'm right in saying that the Victorians didn't really have enclosed porches as a rule but I want to design and build one...
My plan is to make it a kind of outer hallway/porch so it will look like it's always been there.
Does anyone out there have any pictures of original glazed porches or front doors with glazed panels on each side or anything else that could give me some kind of inspiration... as I say I want it to look as original as possible.
Thanks people
I look forward to any help you may be able to give...
Chris
