Hi,
I just had a rather unpleasant confrontation with one of our neighbors.
She has been suffering damp problems in her property for quite some time. She has had walls tanked and unsurprisingly its just made the damp migrate to a different area.
She had a roofer round who cleaned her roof and they have advised her that the fire wall is cracked and needs to be sealed with bitchuminous paint. She wanted our consent to do this as it involves painting both sides (our side) to completely seal it.
None of the properties on this road (all 1904 constructed) have a painted wall at the top. They are all just rendered and unpainted.
I told her I do not want to do this as I don't think it is wise to seal a parapit wall on an old property as it may make the problem a lot worse should water still find a way in. It should be kept the way it is originally and the underlying cause needs to be found.
She got quite angry with this suggestion saying I was being rude to her roofer? Along with some other insults about how "I must be an expert then because I've been reading" - bizarre.
Anyway I wanted to get some opinions/advice on the correct course or action. I've attached pictures of front and back. Hers is the house painted beige with the much cleaner roof.
I did notice her lead flashing in the second picture does not look right.
She was quoted £2700 for the sealing up work.
Any help much appreciated.
