Victorian front door plaster/stone

Please can someone help me? I don't know the name of the white front on my Victorian terrace? It's decoration above the front door, the 'open porch' . The paint/plaster is peeling away- I need it repaired but no idea what to ask for and to whom! Is it stone or plaster??
I will be so grateful for help. I can add a picture later.

Yes, you really need to add a picture! Are you talking about the finish to the front wall, or is there actually a specific item of decoration? The Victorians seemed to like decorating above the front door or at the centre of the frontage, or in fact anywhere on the front according to the pictures in the Haynes Victorian House manual. The manual also says that stucco "deteriorates rapidly once the surface is broken" and I reckon* that's a specialist job to fix properly - there was a chap on the Mike Wye stand at the LPOC exhibition who did that sort of thing.
