Hi all,
I searched the forum but I found surprisingly little in regards to insulating basement walls: In our case it's a Victorian terraced house with solid brick walls. The previous owners applied a tanking slurry to the basement walls in an effort to combat what was apparently quite a damp, unheated cellar.
We are planning to add some cross-ventilation (fan drawing air in one one end of the house with a fan on the opposite site extracting air) and radiators to heat the basement as we hope to make the space into a TV room.
I am now going back and forth between:
- leaving the walls as is for now and seeing how things develop
- trying to somehow get the tanking slurry removed (apparently KA tanking slurry) - but this feels like quite a difficult job
- potentially adding internal insulation - leaning towards sheep wool (probably Isolena brand) for the hyrgroscopic nature but I am a bit worried that this will reduce the temperature of the wall and may increase the risk of condensation developing on the wall. On the upside it would also give a bit of noise insulation from the neighbours though. Also hoping that the insulation would reduce the heating needed in the basement.
Any thoughts or ideas to decide between these or other options I should consider?
