they restore the village black smiths forge by first making their own bricks from clay and firing them in kilns.

Damn good quality hand made bricks I should say, enjoyed watching that.

And for those who liked my use of puggin the other day of course they make bricks out of "pug" from the "pugmill"

ive just had a quote for my clay tudors for my fire place. , i suppose though , they do take 3 months to make and they are a funny size.
the clay floor was also interesting.

thanks Jon , i will defo call around. i first need to try and guesstimate how many i need. the quote i got wasnt too bad , well , is 1.80 a brick good or bad?

Doesn't sound too bad to me. I needed some reclaimed Victorian pressed bricks to do my gateposts - the only local yard to me is a rather posh one (Farrow & Ball and antiques in the showroom, lots of Range Rovers in the car park etc) and they cost me 60p each + VAT. Fortuneately I didn't need too many - and I got to sort through a full pallet and take the best. Based on that being a reclaimed relatively modern machine made brick, £1.80 to make a new bespoke brick by hand doesn't sound too bad to me.

Fortuneately I was able to source the brcks for my garage at a much more "down to earth" and cheaper yard!
