We have been in our 1640 timber framed and thatched house now since 2009. We started with our insurance through NFU but this increased every year to the point where, in 2021, we were sitting at £1,600. At this point we decided it was time to move insurers. We had tried others but the whole changing process was so onerous for a listed and thatched house. Thankfully we found specialist brokers Lloyd & Whyte. Our issue was with our old wood burner and the fact that the flue wasn't properly/professionally lined. We worked with them through 2021 when we had the old wood burner and flue removed, and a new a proper system installed later in the year. Even switching between insurers in the interim. The saving on the annual premiums will easily pay for the new burner and flue in four years. For the 2022 renewal we paid £1,100 all in and were placed with Aeges Insurance. I've just renewed through Lloyd & Whyte for 2023 again with Aeges Insurance for ....... £1,100! I was expecting something nearer to NFU. This also takes into account index linking the rebuild cost by 18% (inflation/commodity prices/ labour). This is essentially a rate reduction which is almost unheard of in the insurance world right now.
If anyone is in need of specialist help with their house insurance I would certainly recommend talking to Lloyd & Whyte. Very professional and helpful.
