Verge flashing tape

Back again sorry. All the verges are covered in some form of flashing tape material, must be 40 odd years old.

Anyway there are two verge timbers which are covered in a grey flashing material which are perfectly sound and solid and am going to leave these however one is rotten and needs replacing and want to tape it in a similar material so it blends in. Anyone used any of these tapes on wood succesfully?

I imagine flashing tape will stick to wood. It's super sticky. In cold weather you might want to heat it a little with a heat gun.

I used some on brick after someone stole my lead flashing. I'm slowly replacing it with lead not because the flashing tape has failed but because lead looks so much nicer.

There is a kind of tape that has a layer of actual lead, but is self-adhesive. It seems to work and lasts well. I find it helps adhesion if you prime the brickwork or wood with a coat of bitumastic paint first, letting it partly dry before applying the tape.

I have found that lead can be corroded by acidic sooty run off from the top of a working chimney, so the plastic tape might actually be better i those circumstances.

I second this. Doesn't look as pretty but does stick well if you prime with bituministic primer, I use it as a more secure DPM for beams or joist in contact with masonary over the normal plastic bag / flap of black plastic.
