From the latest Heritage Link:
VAT concession: Heritage Link calls for evidence
Nearly 20 Building Preservation Trusts have responded to Heritage Link’s call for evidence to support its proposal to extend or set up a similar scheme to the Listed Places of Worship scheme to reclaim VAT (at 17.5%) on repairs to listed buildings in the UK owned by charitable bodies that are otherwise ineligible for a refund. While several of them are already registered for VAT, they identify how the current fiscal regime disadvantages repair and maintenance over alterations and new build.
Additional fundraising, delay, complexity, administrative burdens, inconsistency from VAT officers and offices all add up to outrage and frustration for many voluntary groups.
If you can furnish evidence that VAT has restricted the social and community benefits that heritage projects could have otherwise brought, please let us know on mail @ heritagelink. org. uk or call 020 7820 7796.
