Ok, so not really the right place, but I know you will know. On some areas we are patching the ceiling with plaster board - over the laths and then applying one coat. Do we need to PVA the plasterboard before we use the one coat plaster?
Some plasterers will slap a bit of PVA on to "control suction", but on virgin plasterboard, this is not normally recommended by the likes of British Gypsum. However, a bit of PVA on the old lime plaster would help with bonding & suction control - Assuming you are using a Thistle or BG plaster.
Lime plaster on to plasterboard doesn't generally work unless you use a primer such as DG-27 which can get expensive over large areas. I have boarded a kitchen ceiling and used Febond Blue Grit as a primer, and the lime plaster has stuck quite well - It is only a thin coat (about 3mm thick), and hasn't cracked or fallen off yet.
