I recently came across a terrace of very old properties, in a city conservation area, where several sash windows had been replaced with unsightly and modern-styled uPVC ones. In addition, a satellite dish had been plonked on the front wall of one house.
Although these places weren't listed, they were part of a conservation area as I said.
Having raised the issue with a local department, it now appears that no action can be taken if they are single dwelling-houses. The C.O said that the current legislation was very weak.
Its bonkers.....what's the point of having a conservation area if people can still hack the buildings about, under the "permitted development" order?
Can't say much more at present because the issue is still "live", but it don't give you confidence for much else, does it?
