"Produced from 1760 on in France by the Manufacture Royale de Jouy to compete with the painted and printed cotton fabrics imported from India, the Toile de Jouy textile was originally available in two models, one featuring polychrome floral designs, the other monochrome scenes with figures. Sorry, I'm just really excited about toile at the moment! Would love to design my own to capture life now, it would be cars skidding in the mud and crashing into trees, hens pecking at frozen water, endless rain, muddy footprints...

So far, the bookcase has been within my make do and mend principle, the piece of toile was a remnant from Laura (you know who) bought about 4 years ago for a fiver. I used double sided tape to affix it to the plywood inset. ( that piece of ply was an offcut from something else), so I've just got to sort out the top---- Nigel where are you? and I've stretched the gilt 'grille' ( put it under the hall carpet) and that will just fit over the toile.

Its not daunting its fun.......
its great fun rummaging around at boot sales and fairs... auction houses are really exciting not to mention the sense of achievement you feel when everything finally comes together especially when you finally find that piece you have been searching for that you didnt know existed in the first place but you know will add that extra je ne sais quois to your room !
cabinet looks fab by the way!!
