Unusual 1930s house?

Hello,

I am just curious... We are gonna buy a house built in 1938, but it seems a bit unusual compared to the typical houses built in the 30s (no gable, no bay windows...). The floorplan is however very characteristic of houses built in the 30s. I was wondering whether someone would know if this type of architecture is a common design, and why it is different from other properties of the same period.

The only really distinguishing feature seems to be the mansard roof and these have been popular for centuries so not uncommon. The style went through a renaissance in popularity after the Great War and after the Global Depression in part due to the shortages of materials and a desire to minimise construction costs and was later adopted in a simplified form in the social/council housing boom after WW2

Thank you very much for these explanations. A no-frills version of 1930s houses then, but it still keeps its vintage charm.
