Hi all I am new to this group so Hello all.
Started work on a bit of my house and I am looking for advice re heating a bedroom. It is timber floor boards (presumably hardwood) with plenty of space beneath. The problem I have is the roof pitch is high and I am concerned the heat from radiators will disappear upwards never to be felt again! I've got space for about 4" of insulation on the roof but don't want to lose the beams into the insulation. The walls will have 15-25mm of Savolit plus wood wool boards to the inside with lime plaster and 25mm same board to the outside with Lime render. Windows will be double glazed plastic nasties with trickle vents as its a working farm and I don't want another job with maintenance (apologies to the purists).
I have an external biomass system, internal back boiler and will add a large solar array in the future. So I was planning to go with a 3 coil cylinder and using UFH in the converted section. When I do the rest of the house I will also convert it to underfloor. Downstairs will all be foam glass with lime floor and limestone tiles so will suit UFH.
Upstairs is my headache? All the modern systems will reduce / prevent air movement thru the floor boards so I am worried about moisture build up in the floor boards if I go on top with insulation and thermal boards? Anyone else gone thru this or have opinion?
