My sister will probably come. She has a terrible sense of direction, and wherever she sets out to visit, she invariably seems to end up in Bishops Stortford.

Well, I was trying to protect the delicate sensibilities of the likes of those who post here, but if you must…

There was a young lady of Trier

Anyway, I've eaten escargots and the best I could manage was scaring the dog.

Well, with twelve she'd have a range of one octave, fully chromatic - that is assuming each one played only one note, and I think we can assume it did, as she would have found it difficult to reach behind and control any keys or finger-holes. They must therefore really have been organ pipes (could still technically have been called "flutes" if from a rank of flute pipes). Simple arithmetic will show that with 43 she had almost four octaves available, and without going to consult my copy of Handel's Largo and any Ave Maria (composer unspecified), I can state categorically that this is far more than she needed. So, Penners, I have to agree with you; the story is quite incredible.

I'm unsure of the wind-inducing qualities of escargot too. Even allowing for a spot of poetic licence, it's not believable.
