Hello all.
This wall is the back wall of our kitchen (house built into a hill) and is earth retaining to about 6ft. The lounge is above/behind.
We are about to have a Type C cavity drainage system installed which will involve a plastic membrane which which allow damp to move through wall and into drainage channel at base, but not into room.
There was a tree outside and adjacent to this which was removed. There was also a downspout which has been discharging water into the ground for decades at this corner which has since been properly directed.
In summer we had a little bit of a leak after this wall was exposed and fresh water ran down the face of this wall intermittently over several weeks (we have since improved the drainage at the back to divert surface rainwater away from the house. We will never be able to dry it out before the membrane and cavity system is replaced installed because it is by its nature damp.
My question is - are these mycelium or roots? My fear is dry rot developing from a tiny wooden peg or piece of wood embedded somewhere in the masonry after the waterproofing system is installed, and I won’t know until it’s found it’s way into the house, by which point it would certainly be extensive.
Question for @Matt Green really.
