Treatment of wooden beams

In the process of replacing some radiators in my 350 year old Norfolk timberframed cottage some beams will be exposed which are not normally seen. I understand they should be treated with linseed oil, but am unsure as to whether that should be boiled or just regular linseed oil - or whatever?

Yeah, the whatever will do. It's for appearance's sake so do a bit in a tucked away corner first and see if you like what happens. (The bestest linseed comes from Holkham Paints.)

Or you can wax them. The bestest wax comes from bees.
