Traditional flooring anyone?

Had to smile at the description of this - "traditional" flooring solution:-

I've specified it, it's fine for new build. But "traditional"? well, it's probably 100+ years old in some parts of Europe. "Future Heritage" anyone?

Yes, I was looking at it as I was specifying it for my new garage - it's on a hill so a suspended floor will save bringing in several tons of fill to do a cast in-situ floor, plus this way I'll get some storage space underneath the floor.

100+ years old? You surprise me, I would have guessed at 20 ! So maybe the "traditional" tag isn't so daft after all.

I know of one cellar floor in Italy that was built more than 80 years ago with hand made perforated terracotta blocks supported by reinforced beams and finished with a cement screed. Ideal for the popular floor tiles for final finish.
I don't think much has changed from that time.

What is disheartening is the fact that a vaulted stone ceiling was demolished to install that " modern" set up.
