traditional cut/forged nails

Anyone know where I can get some quality cut/hand forged floor brad nails?
Or am I stuck with things like those from Toolstation
I can find plenty of rosehead nails, but no cut/hand forged like these floor brad nails

I recently bought some from here - http://www.djevans.co.uk/. Not very local for you unfortunately, but they are always very helpful in there so would be worth a call to see if they will send you some.
I assume they must me machine made, but on a very low-tech machine as there is a large amount of variation in size and shape of each nail which is what I wanted. However, they are galvanised and also have a 'pimple' on the top of the head, presumably to help set the head just below the wood surface. I didn't want either of these features, so I used a bench grinder on the top surface of each one before using them. Extra hassle I know, but the end result is exactly what I wanted.

I was looking for a shape more like Penners' link, but at £136 per 25 nails they are terribly expensive, unless they mean 25kg.
I'll see if OHS will send a sample through the post and request if they can make something more like the other.

Then again, I was assuming I would need a flat headed nail for my floorboards, rather than a rose headed, which we've had before and left proud on the doors.

Are these easy to sink in, I walk barefoot a lot, so don't want to have to pick my way round the bedroom!!!!

What about using modern "lost head" nails? or for squeak free floor boards, wood screws. If you want a real period look alike, buy a cheap angle grinder(£20) and a metal grinding disc (£2) and flatten of your rose heads, they will soon go rusty adding to the authentic look.

Don't fancy screws, as we have no cavity, floor is ceiling, and I'm putting an ensuite on top of some of the boards I'll not need the convenience of easy lifting.
Didn't want to have to go to the trouble of grinding a few hundred nails!!!

Graham - I don't believe for one second that they're £136 for 25 nails - or £5.44 per nail! I suspect your 25kg is probably closer to the truth. Why don't you call them to clarify?

The Glasgow nail company do wrought iron nails for £2 each!!
They also make steel ones at not too bad a price so I may use them as they are made in UK.
I'm going to call them alter anyway to find out about those £5 a nail ones

Yes, but they're probably hand forged. The cut nails we're talking about are simply punched out of steel plate, a squillion at a time.

They are, but I'm keen on value for money as well as quality, so pressed it will be.
Made in Uk nails will be as close as I get, better than made in china
