Traditional Builders

As I drove down our street on the way home earlier I noticed a builers van parked up with the name 'Traditional Builing & Restoration' on the side.

As I drove past I had a quick look at the house that the man was working on and noticed that inside the front door plasterboard had been used!
Harly traditional is it?

Depends on how old you feel something needs to be, in order to qualify for the description "traditional".

Apparently, plasterboard was invented in approximately 1888. It was introduced into the UK in 1917 and was in wide use by the 1930’s.

So it's been with us for the best part of 100 years.

I've worked with builders who have remarked, 'I can't be doing with all this lime stuff - I'm afraid I go for the traditional cement and gypsum, me!'

A traditional builder who is well versed in the ways of timber frames and lime may well use plasterboard and cement if it is what's asked of him by his customer. All he can do is offer his advice, whether or not that advice is taken is up to the customer, whether or not the builder takes on the job is up to him but usng modern materials does not stop you being a traditional builder, it's not being able to use traditional materials that stops you
