Toadstools

I found an amazing toadstool in the garden last evening---- it was round, on a stumpy stem, irridiscent blue/green, slippery and smelly. ( HONESTLY) growing in the grass underneath a newly planted cooking apple tree. I only had my I phone handy, have a pic but not a clue how to get it onto PC. It really did glow, as the evening light faded. I've binned it, but hope there will be aanother so I can use my camera-- presumably the spores will still be in the ground. Never seen anything like it, but am familiar with most fungi, especially - my favourite- fly algaric.
google search did not find it!

Did the phone come with a lead to connect it to a port on the computer? If you have that you might be able to plug it in and let it download the necessary drivers and then the photos. The phone might give a message asking if you want to connect it as a storage device, and the answer would be "yes". If it's a Bluetooth one it wouldn't even need a cable, just a setup so the computer can link to the device.

I had a couple of bright bluish-green fungi in the garden last week. After about 24 hours the blue turned to a more normal mushroomy shade of brown. No clue what they are, but then I reckon I have somewhere between 15 and 20 different species of fungi in the garden and no idea whatsoever what species any of them are!

I stopped using moss killer on the lawn a few years ago and the range of fungi has increased greatly. I look on them as part of the biodiversity of the garden and a sign of a healthy ecosystem, others may look on them as evidence of neglect and decay...

Well these aren't blue or nor glow in the dark but they did take us by surprise as they all appeared overnight.

They are feeding off the roots of a cherry tree we cut down a year ago and the fungus must have decided it was time to fruit. The ground is absolutely covered in them:

This charming heart-shaped growth appeared in our local wood, a while ago, around the stump of a felled tree. I've no idea of the species.

...I don't suppose the cherry tree was taken down because it was sick?

Hopefully not. A look online shows lots of images that don't look like our crop but a few that do :shock: . The tree itself was fine before we removed it (apart from not having any blossom nor fruit) and had just grown too big for that part of the garden.

I can recommend downloading the Camera+ app for the iPhone. It has a more intuive zoom and shutter action that reduces wobble* in close ups.

The nearest example I could find in thePhilips guide to Toadstools and Mushrooms is:Clitocybe Odora--- Anise Capje, but I did not think it smelled of aniseed, so the other possibility is:Cortinarious Traganus---- :shock: which apparently has a 'strong goaty-gas smell' -- so the jury is out on this !

Penners, haven't seen one of those uniformed fellas for years---- I wish !!!!!
