Got a new TV - well OK second hand - twenty quid, can't grumble - and first thing was on upon swithching on was tonight's Timewatch about Hadrian's Wall.

Very near us, and a great prog. The Vindolanda stuff particularly exciting.

I've watched it again now, really good prog!

When it stops raining I must have a trip oop road to see how it's all getting on.

There's a whole heap of stuff still unexcavated.

Dan Snow was at Vindolanda on the One Show last night. Interesting.

I expect, along with the Hadrian exhibition at the British Museum, there will be a huge influx of visitors.

Bother, why do I never know about good progs until days later?
Bet I was too busy watching Cadfael at the time

I feel an afinity with old Hadrian - the Romans (or so I am told) only named something after an Emperor if he'd actually been there. So Pons Aelius (now called Newcastle after the Normans built a shack here) is named after Hadrian's family and the Waal is named after him, so Nem and I can correctly say " 'adrian wuz 'ere".
One of my two favourite places is built with the line of the Waal at the very edge of it's forecourt. Even putting bollards in to stop illegal parking involved an archaeologist's watch over the holes.

Odd - just been looking at that website, and that of the next door Mining Institute, two fine buildings in need of so much cash spending on them!

The Hadrian prog on TV last night was excellent also, but the influx of visitors expected at Vindolanda following all this wider attention, I hope brings a bit of prosperity for local businesses, which is sorely needed.
