Have just had my first go a laying bricks and the results look pleasingly neat and tidy. Only a small job to brick up the hole in the bedroom where a fireplace once was (not taken out by us I hasten to add) and which we are not going to put back.
The next job is to have a go at plasting over it - I had never done that before either!
My question is.......how long do I need to leave the brick mortar to go off before I can apply the scratch coat of plaster? (all lime products of course!)
Also, where the fireplace has been removed some nice person has put a five inch wide arch of rough cement scratch coat between the old lime plaster and the fire place opening. At least I assume it must involve cement - it is a very dark almost black colour. Can I just add a lime scratch coat over the new brick work and then a finish coat over this and the band of cememt, or will I need to chip the cememt off?
Cheer chaps and chapesses
