Some of you may have seen The BBC 'Restored To Glory' programme that featured Middi's project and the extent to which he had to repair and rebuild a substantial portion of his c1400 timber-framed house.
I've think I've also previously mentioned that Middi's work was the deciding factor when I was considering taking on my own project, as he is living proof that no matter what is discovered when the external cement render is stripped away from an old timber-frame building, nothing is too bad to condemn the building - even if it means completely rebuilding certain sections in order to preserve the remainder.
What you probably don't know is that, far from sitting back and taking it easy after such a daunting project, Middi actually took on another very similar project (possibly worse, albeit smaller) and only completed it last month. Perfect timing, in fact, for his daughter's family to move in just before Christmas - a wonderful Christmas present by anyone's standard.
Middi was kind enough to invite me to visit his latest project on many occasions over the past few years to let me see and learn about many of the things involved and what I might discover during my own project. It has certainly been an invaluable experience.
During those visits, I took many photographs and Middi has asked me to post a selection on PPUK, prompted, I believe, in response to a number of questions by Robgil, but I'm sure they will be of far wider interest, even to those members not currently involved in saving another timber-framed building from the perils of non-breathable cement render.
Enjoy!
