The owner of one of our neighbouring row of 1986 build terraced cottages has applied for planning consent to timber clad part of his cottage, the back of which we overlook. I am most intrigued. He tells us that his end of row cottage is built with fletton bricks, unlike the rest, and they were painted cream by a previous owner. For some reason, which he does not seem to be able to clarify, he has gone to great lengths employing an Architect and gathering several quotations to 'clad the first floor of the property including room over archway (flying freehold over vehicular access to parking for all the cottages) and two gable ends with pre treated grey cladding' . The cladding will be placed on battens--------------well ok------but why? I ask myself----- obviously he can do what he likes, but we do have to look at it from the back; it will be the only one in the row of four cottages; and, from the front, cladding does not fit in with the street scene which is supposed to be in the conservation area.
The application has been put in under Article 14 of application for PP.
TBH it really is not a major issue and I cannot in all honesty see grounds for objections but what on earth is he going to gain---!
I'd love some thoughts from you! As I say no big deal !
