Doesnt look that lived in to me. Where are the fire irons and fender? Where is all the normal clutter on the mantlepiece (photos, invitations etc) and the plain cream walls look rather too bland and safe. My guess is that it is probably hired out on a regular basis and that the family doesnt live in that particular room.

Sorry for the delay, which was caused in part by the weather (I spent a lot of yesterday evening chopping wood and feeding the boiler)
This puzzle appears to be easier for some of you than I would have found it. However, here's another picture of the hall at the foot of the main staircase. Someone seems to have been keen on travelling.
