Thoughts turning to Summer evenings

While I remain not much practical use - not any use to be honest - around the garden I have started to think about garden furniture. We have a couple of ancient Lloyd Looms that we use on the terrace. In many ways they have been perfect - they are comfy - but we forget to bring them under the verandah so they stay outside all year and consequently they aren't safe to sit on any more. The risk of collapse is imminent. We need to replace. Lots of googling but I don't like anything that is remotely 'modern' in style and I hate the 'plastic' wicker so some of the stuff. I am tempted - but rather scared by the prices - of buying new Lloyd Loom - they do an outdoor range. Does anyone have any bright ideas? Thanks, Vicky

Oh, it's impossible isn't it. So many of the styles are really not for country cottages at all.

I think this is lovely, and perfect for the country cottage, but wrought iron is never all that comfy.

The other thing you could do is buy plain wooden deck chairs, paint them fashionable sludge, and get sewing with some lovely vintage fabric to replace the plain fabric inserts.

A Lutyens bench is a classic design and would look nice in a teal blue or duck egg, softened with a bench cushion.

The Lloyd Loom stuff is so lovely, but yes, very costly.

Thank you Joce. I agree about the wrought iron. I love the way it looks but ever-practical husband reminds me will never be comfy. We have a bench but somehow it's too upright and not slouchy enough. Sometimes it's the simple things that take the most research. I guess I will have to carry on hunting the Interweb. Mind you, not temped to sit outside today. It's freezing here.

Cast iron benches can be quite comfy if you choose the ones with 'curly arms' and use a nice thick cushion on them.

As we have forum members who are likely to shed their clothes the choice of seating is important ! (or cushions should be used) :roll:
