Nothing to do with PPUK I am afraid but various people have posted pictures of wildlife that they have spotted so I thought it would be an idea to keep it all in one place.

I also managed to take the following picture this morning and want to share

Wel done for managing to get that picture, MdB. We often have GS Woodpeckers on our bird feeders, but I simply cannot get the little beggars to stay still and smile for a photo. By the time I've pressed the button, the camera has thought it over for a while, and the shutter has finally fired, the woodpeckers are in the next county.

So I have to make do with:

Really impressed with that woodpecker pic - the real one as opposed to Woody!!!! How on earth did you get it - a big telephoto lens?

Awww, that's one amazing photo, very lucky there (or more likely hard work and patience)

I'm always amazed at the industry of birds, aren't they wonderful? Very hard to photograph though, as Penners says.

I'll refrain from sharing piccies of my rats!

Step 1: Walk dogs.
Step 2: Notice that some birds are making one hell of a racket.
Step 3: Hang around long enough to work out that racket number one is coming from woodpeckers making alarm call due to me and the dogs and that racket number two is coming from chicks in a nest. The chicks made so much noise demanding to be fed that it was very easy to identify the tree that they were in.
Step 4: Come back later with camera and sit on ground far enough away not to spook parents.
Step 5: Every time patents left, move a bit closer. I ended up about 6m away from nest.
Step 6: Take lots of pictures with a borrowed SLR and 250mm zoom lens. Unfortunately, it was a rather dark lens and I still ended up with blurred pictures on ISO1600 and max aperture.
In all, I was there about half an hour to get the pics so not too difficult.

The parents also like visiting our bird feeder.

This picture was taken through our kitchen window with a 70mm lens.

Ah - therein lies the trick (plus your patience). A good long lens and minimum shutter lag.

Super shots! Do the dog walk bit and over last few months have been followed by a cuckoo (last couple days, singing its heart out), and a pair of buzzards, who regularly get bullied by a couple of brave crows!

Here's the latest wildlife to arrive in my lambing shed. 3 goslings.

The boys wanted to call them Fluffy, Buffy and Duffy - on account of their appearance. We've settled on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and Boxing day on account of their life expectancy! :twisted:

Did you let them watch the Eurovision Song Contest? That would have driven them out into the woods, if anything could.

I think wildlife covers anything that moves. This one certainly does.

I'm not sure you'd like her so much, now that she's four years old, 'Marm.

She's the most confrontational dog you'll ever come across. If any other dog (including the above Pennershound) crosses her threshold, she spends the entire time "in their face". She follows them around, literally staring at them face-to-face, in a message that clearly says, "Wanna fight? C'mon - WANNA FIGHT?"

She reminds me of someone, but I just can't think who. :wink:

(ok, I'm being given grief from Mrs MdB for the above. Whisper has recently been taken on by the Cinnamon Trust as her old owner unfortunately died. Her new long term fosterer is on holiday this week so we are looking after her. A rather timid ex racing dog but is friendly once you get to know her.)

No idea - we only got the goslings a couple of days ago. Maybe one day I'll get an incubator and try some of these eggs on eBay - quite fancy releasing a load of pheasants into the woods.
