Just for fun, as we are mostly snow-bound still. I grew up in New York (state) in a house that was probably built between 1825 and 1840, with many additions through the ages. The original part is traditional Federalist style, with Victorian and 20th century additions. When my parents moved in about 30 years ago it was in a state - fairly dilapidated and with much 1970s trauma. They weren't period specialists or anything but over the years have done a mix of restoration and updating. Sadly they just replaced the windows last year but many wonderful features remain, including floors, exciting lime stuff in the basement, crooked chimney, and lime plaster. I took some (well, tons of) pictures when we were there at Christmas, since I have a whole new appreciation for it now that I've caught the period bug (and I realised, having grown up there has probably shaped my interest too!)
In the basement - original house. These are lime-washed eucalyptus logs supporting the house!
The fireplace
The basement stairs, with odd internal septic tank (decommissioned in the 1950s, but the cause of continuing woe with planners.
